Install the plugin
SafeAlt is published in the official WordPress plugin directory. Install it straight from your admin:
- Go to Plugins → Add New Plugin.
- Search for “SafeAlt”: the plugin is called SafeAlt – AI Alt Text Generator & Image SEO, by ZM Labs.
- Click Install Now, then Activate.
- The setup assistant opens automatically.
Updates then arrive like for any plugin, in Dashboard → Updates. If you installed SafeAlt from its zip file, there is nothing to do: directory updates take over, with your settings and your connection.
The texts written for your images are always in the language of your content, whatever the language of the admin (see Languages and context).
The setup assistant
The assistant has three steps. You can leave it at any time and come back later from the SafeAlt menu, in the left column of the admin, below the WordPress menus.

| 1. Connection | Click Connect my site and enter a contact email (required). Preferably use the one you buy with: a plan bought with this address is linked to the site automatically. Accept that images are sent to our service: nothing is sent before this step. Your free account (25 images a month, no credit card) is active straight away. |
| 2. Your site | Describe your business in one sentence (for example “Roofer in Kent, specialised in slate and lead work”) and choose the fields to write. |
| 3. Existing images | Choose whether to have the images of your media library that have no alt text described now, or later. |
Describe your business precisely: the caption can refer to it when the image is related.

The number of proposals awaiting review is shown next to the SafeAlt menu.
Uninstall
If the data deletion option is ticked in the settings, uninstalling cancels running jobs and deletes SafeAlt’s settings and queue. The texts already applied to your images stay in place.
