Exporting your store’s entries every month is a simple task that is easy to forget. The automatic export removes it: the previous month’s file arrives in the mailbox of your choice, ready to be passed on to your accountant.
How it works
On the 1st of each month, Accounting Export for WooCommerce generates the previous month’s export in the background and emails it as an attachment, with the same name and extension as a download from the history. Documents that were already exported are excluded: each entry is sent only once.
The automatic monthly export is part of the Premium version (active licence or 14-day trial). Without a licence, the activation checkbox is disabled and no export is scheduled.
The settings to know
In the “Statuses & Automation” tab of the settings:
- Enable automatic sending: off by default.
- Recipient email: by default, the site’s admin address; an invalid address falls back to it.
- Automatic export format: FEC by default, or any of the other formats available with Premium.
What happens, and what does not
- If the period contains no entries, no email is sent: this is not an error.
- Skipped orders, unexported payments and foreign-currency documents are mentioned in the email.
- The export appears in the history with the origin “Automatic”.
- On failure, an alert email is sent to the recipient: run the export again manually.
Low-traffic store: mind WP-Cron
WordPress scheduled tasks are triggered by visits. On a quiet store, the export can therefore start late. If that is your case, set up a system cron that calls wp-cron.php at a regular interval, for example every 15 minutes.
An effortless monthly routine
- On the 1st, the file arrives by email.
- You forward it to your accountant, or they receive it directly if they are the recipient.
- If in doubt, the plugin’s log (WooCommerce → Status → Logs) traces the start, completion or failure of the export.
The details are on the Automatic monthly export page of the documentation.
